"Archetypes of Virtue" is the 2025 Memory Parlor sponsored by the Cora di Brazzà Foundation. It convenes on July 23, 24, 2025 at the breathtaking Philadelphia Masonic Temple. On July 24th, we will travel by bus to the historic home of Dr. Philip Jaisohn (1864-1951), where we will engage in Memory Work related to the Korean War. During our Parlor, we will use the ancient “Art of Memory” to explore the theme of  “Archetypes of Virtue.2025 marks the 150th anniversary of Carl Jung’s birth (1875–1961), the pioneering psychologist who reimagined the human psyche as a storehouse of inherited "archetypes" or primordial images that permeate the subconscious. As foundational texts of Tibetan Buddhism—a philosophy grounded in peace and nonviolence—were first translated into English during the 20th century, Jung recognized striking parallels between Buddhist understandings of the mind and his own psychological theories which posited an inherited storehouse of motifs. On Day 1 of our Memory Parlor, we explore these themes, and will focus on stories that illuminate how memory, image, and archetype contribute to the cultivation of virtue.

On Day 2, we explore connected themes of memory, moral injury and virtue connected to the Korean War, which began 75 years ago on June 25, 1950. A focal point of this day is the "No Gun Ri Movement," a peace and human rights movement that arose from atrocities committed during the Korean War. The second half of this day will be held at the historic home of Philip Jaisohn in Media, Pennsylvania. A bus will be provided from the Masonic temple to Media.
